• Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science & Amruthben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics is a college affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
• The college was established in 1961 in Vile Parle, Mumbai by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal. In 2018

• Granted autonomous status by UGC.
• Mithibai College was established by Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) in 1961, as a part of the trust’s silver jubilee celebration.
• The Mithibai College of Arts and Chauhan Institute of Science, commonly known as the main wing, was started first,
• The Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce & Economics started 19 years later.
• Courses including Bachelor of Management Studies, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree courses in biochemistry, biotechnology and computer science were subsequently introduced by the College.
• The college has grown to a student population of more than 32,000.

Students Council in the College

The Students’ Council of Mithibai College is the apex committee among all the committees/ associations of the college. It consists of student members from each class, right from FYJC to PG. The Convener of Students’ Council is Dr. Mahesh Bhagwat.

• The Students’ Council performs following functions:
• A platform for students raise issues and grievances
• Organisation of College days and Annual Days
• Organisation of the Degree Distribution Ceremony
• Organisation of Prize Distribution Ceremony
• Works in coordination with all Committees and Departments.
• Organizes other events.

Nowadays, there is an increasing trend among the students of higher education to enrol in institutions that are away from their home. They do this in search of better facilities and quality of education. Due to its high rank at the regional and national level among higher education institutes, Mithibai College is a favourite college for students not only from Mumbai, but also from all over India. Hence, a large number (approximately 500) students take admission in Mithibai College for various Courses.

Library in Mithibai College

The library of Mithibai College (Jitendra Library) is one of the best libraries in the city of Mumbai. It is serving its users from the inception of college, i.e. from year 1961.

Library is situated at ground floor occupying carpet area of 6900 sq.ft, and is entirely air-conditioned supported with modern technologies like WiFi and digital video recording cameras. Library users can access Online Databases through WiFi.

Library shares its resources under inter library loan with other libraries of SVKM. Library in-house functions are automated through Libsys software, which assists users to locate reading material, by title, author and subject queries. Online Catalogue of books and non-book material is available through the Union Web OPAC.

Library caters to a clientele of students, faculty and staff members with its profound collection of books, journals, CDs and other resource material. An ‘Open Access’ lends a hand to the users to pick a book of their choice.
